Obama Win Sparks Joyous Celebrations Across U.S.
Scenes of joy erupted in the US capital of Washington DC and across the country
as crowds poured onto the streets celebrating Barack Obama’s triumph in the presidential election, honking horns, dancing and singing.
Mr. Obama earlier accepted the US presidency in front of a massive crowd at Chicago’s Grant Park, in his home state of Illinois, taking the stage with his wife and children before delivering a speech welcomed by raucous applause and cheering.
He thanked Americans for their votes regardless of their race, regardless of their sexual orientation and regardless of whether they were disabled or able-bodied.
“Americans have sent a message to the rest of the world that we are not a collection of individuals or a collection of red states and blue states. We are and always will be the United States of America,” he said.
