Dyesebel’s world

There have been many mermaid stories, so how does Mars Ravelo’s Dyesebel differ from the old tales which have been an engaging element of our folklore? And how do the people behind the GMA version make theirs stand out as unique? The writers of Mars Ravelo’s Dyesebel give you an in depth account of Dyesebel’s culture. Let us join Dyesebel and learn more about her world, their culture, and traditions.

The Dyesebels of the past have always concentrated on the love story between Fredo and Dyesebel. There have been many remakes of this love story and most scenes have been confined to the beach and in the mortal’s world. But this time around, GMA wants us to have an idea of what Dyesebel’s world is really like.

“Kung ano ‘yung hindi pa napapakita ng mermaid stories dito sa Pilipinas, yun yung ipapakita namin, so basically ‘yung mundo nila. May culture sila, kung paano sila magtinda, kung paano mag-exchange ng money, ‘yung traditions nila,â€ say the writers of Dyesebel, Kit Villanueva-Langit, Arlene Navarro-Punio and Dodie Cruz.

They have also disclosed that they made the characters of Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera as different as possible from their previous characters in Marimar.

“Actually challenge talaga siya sa lahat. Hindi lang sa creative, sa production, even sa kanilang dalawa, admits the writers of the show.

Indeed they wanted to give us something new to watch. Aside from the usual mermaid story that we have been introduced to by one of the most successful graphic novelist in the Philippines, Mars Ravelo, we are now given a vision of what Dyesebel’s world is like under the sea.
